Sabrina Stiles: Connection through Art, Common Ground and a Limited Palette

Sabrina Stiles is a Colorado-based pastel artist with an expressive style. Primarily a landscape artist, Stiles draws inspiration from cloudy days that allow for softer light and feminine expression. Of her work, the artist shares that each has its own story, its own struggle. “You go through something with every painting,” she says. Whether the scene finds the artist, or the artist finds the scene, she doesn’t know, but she is inspired by her travels and the landscape near her home in Longmont, Colorado.

Sabrina Stiles is a featured artist in Unrestrainedan all-women’s exhibition showcasing the uncensored creations depicting works that evoke contemplation in the viewer. This interview with Ann Korologos Gallery has been lightly edited for brevity and clarity.

Sabrina Stiles “Looking Up” Series

AKG: Tell us about the new work featured in Unrestrained?

SABRINA STILES: The two new pieces, Eastern View and Desert Haven, along with Trees in Violet, are connected through the use of the same preselected palette. Each was created using those six or seven pastels. Working within a limited palette allows me to be more creative—I’m challenged to translate my ideas while emphasizing design and composition. This pushes me to be more expressive and ultimately strengthens the resulting artwork.

AKG: What would you like to share about the intention behind the art you bring to the world?

SABRINA STILES: My intention with my art is to capture a sense of connection—whether to a place, a moment, or an emotion. I want my paintings to evoke something personal for the viewer. If my work resonates with someone, sparks a memory or feeling, or simply makes them smile, that is incredibly gratifying.

AKG: This Women’s History Month, is there anything you’d like to share with aspiring artists?

SABRINA STILES: I enjoy taking risks, and I believe it has been necessary for my artistic growth. It takes time and patience to grow as an artist. You must also embrace and enjoy the process—because that’s where the magic happens. To aspiring artists, I encourage you to explore, experiment, and allow yourself to make mistakes, as they often lead to the biggest breakthroughs.

AKG: Is there anything you’d like to share with collectors?

SABRINA STILES:I hope your painting brings you joy for many years to come. Each piece is a journey that carries a little bit of my soul, and I am always so grateful to know my work has spoken to someone. This Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate the courage and dedication of women artists, past and present, who have paved the way for future generations.

AKG: What do you find to be empowering about being a woman in a male-dominated industry?

SABRINA STILES: Being a woman in a male-dominated industry has given me the opportunity to gain confidence in my abilities. It’s empowering to push artistic boundaries and inspire others to do the same. I feel incredibly fortunate to be among the talented artists in this show. Knowing that my journey may encourage other women to take risks, trust their creative instincts, and pursue their passions fearlessly is deeply rewarding.
