Timeless: Art as a Gift

Art is a timeless gift that can enrich the life of the recipient for years to come. Not only does it last a lifetime, but it’s filled with sentiment that few other objects can rival. It is also a gift that has value – value that can grow over the years. While it can be an intimidating venture, it is also one of the most original, thoughtful and fulfilling presents to give. We would like to offer our tips on buying art for friends and family.

How Well Do You Know the Recipient?

Keep in mind that the artwork you choose is to the person’s taste or reminds you of a subject matter that reflects his or her personality. Do you have a sense of their style, taste, or passions? Perhaps they have a passion for fishing, wildlife, Colorado’s landscapes. Have you noticed a  style, subject matter, favorite artist? Perhaps there is a work of art in which the subject matter or style has a deeper, underlying meaning between you and the recipient,  like a meaningful trip, a fond memory, or a common bond.

Consider the Space

Can you visualize how the art would look in their home? Art is meant to be displayed, so consider the style, colors, and themes throughout their home, including any other artwork they may have. Ask yourself for what space this gift is intended.  For example, if they just bought a house, remodeled a bathroom, designed a new office space, having a space in mind helps focus your options. If you are able to take a photo of their home, we can help you with a virtual installation to take out the guess-work!

Bring Them to View the Work

If you’re unsure of what type of art they like, another option is to bring the recipient to the gallery with you and let them choose the piece. You can still maintain an element of surprise by seeing what specific artists, themes, or styles they are drawn to then purchase the work later. Our sales team will be discreet and note which works and artists they love.

Go With Your Gut

Don’t be afraid to go with your instincts. If a piece of art jumps out at you or instantly reminds you of the person, then you may have just found the one!  As the saying goes, “you’ll know it when you see it.”

Rest Easy

We want our clients to live with and enjoy their artwork. If there are any doubts about whether your recipient will love it, consider giving them a gallery gift certificate. Choosing a work at their leisure or sharing in the experience together can remove the pressure.  Are you worried about exchanges? View our return policy here

“Besides liking to live with art, I think it brings life to life. It brings out our humanness. It brings out our instincts for something greater than ourselves.”
