"The title of this painting, "Autumn is Thrown Down," is taken from the classic book "The Peregrine" by J.A. Baker. Baker’s book remains one of the best examples of nature writing and has inspired new generations of writers. His haunting evocation of the peregrine falcons in the English countryside not only give us a glimpse into the life of these birds but also the dual face of nature—both beautiful and brutal. The autumn season is one that inevitably evokes both beauty and loss, and I have tried to suggest that in this painting." –Deborah Paris
