The beauty of a landscape, especially in places with such extreme seasons as Colorado, never look the same thanks to the changing light of each season and the blooming and wintering of the foliage. Take a tour the seasons through these landscape paintings, prints, and photographs by our artists.
Spring in Colorado is a time of booming transition! As the snow melts, the plants and animals are eager to take advantage of the short growing season. As snow gives way to fresh foliage, the quiet of the Winter landscape comes alive.
“Come for the Winter, stay for the Summer” is a well known phrase here in Aspen, Basalt, and the Roaring Fork Valley. Summer offers endless fields of wildflowers, running rivers, forests full of life, and high-energy all around.
When people talk about “Colorful Colorado,” Fall certainly comes to mind! While it is a short season, the Aspen foliage turns bright yellow with hints of peach, but the underbrush really steals the show with vibrant oranges, purples, reds and yellows as the plants and animals prepare for Winter.
Winter in Colorado is not as “white” as one might think! The snow reflects every color around it–often the deep Sapphire of a “bluebird” sky– or a golden sunrise. The low sun creates long shadows and soft light. The mountains are purple and blue from the light, the evergreens remind us of Summer, and details of the bare cliffs dusted with snow offer high-contrast.
