PRESS RELEASE: Dinah Worman, From Above

America at Heart: From Above presents a solo exhibition of oils and pastels from the nationally acclaimed and award-winning Dinah Worman, with an artist’s reception on Thursday, July 6th from 5 to 7PM at the Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt.

Dinah Worman’s representational yet imaginative variations in both oil and pastel focus on the human relationship to the landscape. Instantly recognizable for its clarity, depth, and quality of light, Worman’s work shows the interaction of man and nature in the contemporary “Wild West” of New Mexico and neighboring Colorado.

I really love the horizontal lines… and these vertical old buildings, or roads going up that will stack in a way that looks like they’re going straight up into the sky

Dinah sees the landscape as one might see an arranged still life. “I really love the horizontal lines… and these vertical old buildings, or roads going up that will stack in a way that looks like they’re going straight up into the sky,” Worman said in a 2013 interview with Aspen Public Radio.

This perspective of the landscape and dedication to self is what is to love about Dinah, not to mention her masterful use of oil and pastel to capture the light of the West.

“My interpretation is more important to me than the object itself. You realize that your wisdom is coming from some subconscious place rather than from copying something else. I want to do work that, though rooted in reality, is more and more conceptual,” says Dinah.

Worman has earned the designation of Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America. She was the Coors Western Art Exhibition and Sale 2017 Featured Artist, and winner of the Southwest Art Award in 2015. She has been featured in articles including: The Pastel Journal, Southwest Art, and The Artists Magazine, as well as several books including Art Journey America: Landscapes and Art Journey: New Mexico.

America at Heart: From Above featuring Dinah Worman will remain on view through August 1, 2017. For more information, please visit the Ann Korologos Gallery at 211 Midland Avenue in Basalt, call (970) 927-9668 or email art@korologosgallery.com.
