Danger arrived at our doorstep with the start of the Lake Christine Fire last Tuesday night. Our neighbors north of Midland Avenue, in El Jebel, Missouri Heights, and the Frying Pan faced evacuating with family, pets, and the most precious belongings in tow, not knowing if or when they would be returning. A week later, the immediate danger seems to have subsided, but the threat persists, helicopters fly overhead, evacuation orders are being lifted for some, and life is far from normal. As tempting as it is to just watch with anxious trepidation, it is also clear that this is a time of community, action and need.
Ann Korologos Gallery will be donating a portion of sales from the Opening Reception of Western Dimensions: Sculpture to the local Red Cross who is managing relief efforts to all those displaced by or brought in to fight the fire. These donations will be matched up to $250,000 by our wonderful neighbor, Alpine Bank. Look forward to experiencing the many dimensions of the West brought to shape through sculpture featuring Neil Clifford, Gordon Gund, Amy Laugesen, and Lloyd Schermer; introducing Lisa Gordon, while supporting the community in this time of need.
In the face of sadness, grief, and loss, it is important to band together and pull our heads up for a breath, to feed our spirits with art, beauty and connection. For this reason alone, the show will go on!
