Ann Korologos Gallery presents Living in the Landscape featuring the works of Heather Foster, Veryl Goodnight, Sean Wallis and Simon Winegar. The group exhibition explores diverse western landscapes from the perspective of artists whose vibrant, emotional connection with the landscape transcends the moment. The exhibition is on view September 23 through October 11, 2023 at Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt, CO and virtually at korologosgallery.com.
Heather Foster of Santa Fe, New Mexico depicts the wild landscapes of Colorado and New Mexico. Foster explores light at the end of the day, scenes at the end of the road, and subjects that reflect the connection the artist has in solitary moments in nature. Furthermore, the painter shows evidence of her thought process, leaving the changes and refinements in drawing and the composition evident on the canvas.
Veryl Goodnight was born loving animals and the American West. Furthermore, those two elements have been the focus of Goodnight’s art for over three decades. The oil painter and bronze sculptor works from life, preferring a live model over photography references. The reason being, Goodnight wants to capture the dynamism of her subjects. This artist knows how to tell a good story amongst the narrative. Sandhill cranes, redwing blackbirds, Navajo sheep or ‘churro sheep,’ horses and their wrangler, and sled dogs are subjects of life in the landscape witnessed by Goodnight.
Sean Wallis is a painter based in Salt Lake City, Utah. As an impressionist, Wallis pays close attention to the relationship of light and color. This painter captures fleeting moments with the texture of oil paint and a broad, colorful palette. His work with light, hue, and atmosphere manifest through a skillful combination of colors that vibrates and excites the eye. The results are an uncanny illusion of depth.
Simon Winegar is a Utah-based painter inspired by his love for the natural beauty of the outdoors. This includes, man-made additions like weathered barns, fields at harvest time, and ranch houses. While his subjects vary, he prefers painting en plein air creating moods that are often romantic and thought-provoking. Winegar’s landscapes are meant to beautify the world and move the viewer.
