Heather Foster | Resilience of the land

In this new series,  I include small amounts of charcoal I collected from burned tree pieces from the area where New Mexico’s largest wildfire occurred in 2022 – the Hermits Peak Fire. In these paintings, I blend the charcoal in areas of texture or shadow.

To me, this inclusion represents the resilience of the land itself – how life continues in nature even after devastation – an amazing view that can once again arise from the ashes.
