Featured in Southwest Art magazine, Free Rein brings together works by six longtime gallery artists — Heather Foster, Terry Gardner, Donna Howell-Sickles, Amy Lay, Amy Laugesen and Joel Ostlind — alongside new talent Maura Allen. Each artist explores themes of freedom, responsibility, rugged terrain, and the lived experience of ranch life through painting, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking.
The exhibition’s title reflects the dual realities of life in the West — “freedom and responsibility, hardship and joy” — and honors the enduring way of life shaped by open range, livestock, and the land itself. The works celebrate the spirit and breadth of contemporary Western art through the work of seven dynamic artists whose voices reflect life on the land, in community, and in imagination.
From evocative portrayals of cowboy culture to dynamic equine sculpture and atmospheric etchings, Free Rein offers collectors and art lovers a richly varied look at contemporary Western art.
Free Rein is on view at Ann Korologos Gallery from February 3 to March 4 — a must-see for anyone inspired by the landscapes and traditions of the American West.
