Ann Korologos Gallery presents All That Shimmers, a group exhibition featuring Sarah Lamb, Linda Lillegraven, Brett Scheifflee, Joel Ostlind, Nathan Solano, and introducing Paul Reimer. All That Shimmers is on view June 7 through June 30, 2024 at Ann Korologos Gallery in historic downtown Basalt and virtually at korologosgallery.com.
“All That Shimmers depicts the reflective dance of water, light and insight from artists across Colorado, Wyoming, New York, Texas, Wyoming and Canada,” shares Sue Edmonds, gallery director. “Unbeatable in skilled hands are moments from a quiet daybreak to the majestic sunset, from artist’s private studio moments to man-versus-fish in brisk waters.”
Sarah Lamb is a nationally known realist painter with classical skill, a robustly sensual grasp of the world, and a keen eye. Lamb studied with Jacob Collins and Ted Seth Jacobs after earning a Bachelors in Science degree in Studio Art. Through transparency, depth and texture, she captures the minute details of everyday
objects in her dramatic still lifes of seasonal blossoms and edible pleasures.
Linda Lillegraven is a Wyoming-based painter with a Bachelors in Art, a Bachelors in Science, and a Masters in Biology. Lillegraven loves to paint the open prairie, striving to include a minimal amount of detail while simultaneously giving the viewer a sense of space. The light and atmosphere of the Wyoming prairie, similar to the Colorado mountains, is a challenge to paint because “the air is thin, the light is hard, and the transitions of color and tone are so subtle to be almost invisible,” said Lillegraven in an interview with Southwest Art Magazine.
Brett Scheifflee is a New York-based painter whose love of Colorado and the Roaring Fork Valley continues to push him to paint the challenging atmosphere in his realist style. Scheifflee’s tightly painted, highly detailed realist landscapes are informed by his study of drawing, illustration, and art history, and have earned him a national reputation. The soft light, simple composition, careful detail,
and hyper realism of Scheifflee’s oil paintings enthrall his collectors, who
have often compared his style to that of Claude Monet.
Joel Ostlind is a Wyoming native, cowboy and expert draftsman whose drawings find life through copper plate etchings as his medium, often hand-colored with watercolor or gouache. His subjects depict the range of Western life as he knows it, with ranch hands, fishermen, log cabins and a cowboy’s day dreams as his focus. Ostlind juxtaposes organic shapes with negative space. Whether it be the line of a lasso or the cast of a fisherman, a rider on a bucking bronco or a fisherman drifting a hand-tied fly, the ease of his subjects in their element are reflected in draftsmanship of this artist.
Nathan Solano is a Colorado-based, self-taught painter who started his career as an artist at the age of forty. Fleeting moments are captured with dancing light and gesture, enticing the viewer to feel present within the scene and marking the moment, as Solano prefers, “in the now.” Solano has become widely known for his portrait work, but his personal interests and curiosity have broadened his subject matter. He can be found at cattle roundups, powwows, and other environmental scenes of the American West, taking professional photographs that often end up on canvas.
Introducing Paul Reimer, a Canadian-based blacksmith and iron sculptor who earned an international reputation for his large, public art projects across North America, including Carbondale, CO. He is inspired by elements he sees in the world around him and before him, from architecture and design to culture and history, to relationships and nature. His current series depicts fishermen’s dry flies mounted on river rock and driftwood, a statement of man replicating nature and becoming part of nature’s cycle.
