We are pleased to announce that Dean Mitchell, new to the 2014 Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale, walked away with two awards this year. The first award he received is the William E. Weiss Purchase Award. The award, which may be exercised annually at the discretion of a museum staff/trustee committee, results in the acquisition of a work of art for the center’s collection. Dean also received the Premier Platinum Award. This award is selected by a panel of jurors chosen by the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale Committee.
Congratulations again to Dean Mitchell! His winning piece is a watercolor titled “Taliesin West.” The original Taliesin West was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1937 as his personal winter home, studio, and architectural campus. It is located on the Sonoran desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains in northeast Scottsdale.
Dean’s painting, “Built to Last” is featured in our current landscape exhibition, “Out of the West–Landscapes” on view now at the gallery. Contact the gallery for more information.
