Paula Schuette Kraemer has a tradition of tallying animal sightings witnessed along hikes and camping trips in Colorado, even writing the sightings on the calendar, and creating a series of family portraits. It is no wonder her eyes were drawn to the island cats of Hydra, Greece during a trip abroad, and she kept a tally: First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth Greek Cat.
The series of six plays with the personality of cats portrayed with etching, intaglio and drypoint. Paired with each feline personality is the name of a Greek-inspired-blue printed in that color. The colors are Aegean, Indigo, Ultramarine, Peacock, Ocean and Cobalt. “When I think of Greece, I think of blue,” shares Schuette Kraemer. “The different rich blues reminiscent of the sky, water, rooftops, doors, and shutters.”
“I hope you enjoy these works as much as I enjoyed printing them while remembering the cats and blues of Greece.”
