Cap Pannell artist lives in Dallas, Texas, and has been a designer, illustrator, and painter for over 35 years. He received his BFA in Graphic Design from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas in 1971. For the next several years he worked with one of Dallas’ most prestigious graphic design firms, learning the craft and business of design. Soon after that he launched his own design studio. He and his wife, who is also his business partner, have been producing award-winning designs for more than 30 years.
Pannell works in oil on canvas and does multi-media printmaking, interpreting nature from his photographs and drawings. Edgar Degas, J.M.W. Turner, and Andrew Wyeth are among his most admired influences and like them, he seeks to record moods and moments. His representational landscapes focus on light and the seasons in Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Arkansas, Utah and other favorite locales.
“In painting,” according to the artist, “I aim to make a simple, dramatic statement, the key element in illustration.” Among Pannell’s versatile and popular scenes are: a full moon in morning light, the glow of autumn in Texas, the soft light of sunrise backing snowy trees in winter, the colorful reflection of a desert cliff above a river, and many more.
“Although my work is derived from nature and representational, I leave it open to interpretation,” shares Pannell.“ My goal is to make something that resonates visually and emotionally, both for me and the viewer.”
