Artist Demonstration with Leon Loughridge and Michael Wisner
Artist Demonstrations Michael Wisner and Leon Loughridge

Ann Korologos Gallery presents an evening of Artist Demonstrations with woodblock printmaker Leon Loughridge and ceramic artist Michael Wisner on Thursday, July 28 from 5 to 7PM at Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt, Colorado.  The joint artist demonstration opens two events: a 3-day in-gallery artist residency with Leon Loughridge from July 28 to July 30 (11 to 5 daily), and a solo exhibition with Michael Wisner from July 28 through August 18, 2022.

Leon Loughridge  lives in Denver, Colorado, where he makes woodblock prints based on watercolor paintings created en plein air.  Influenced by Japanese printmaking techniques, he prefers watercolors to begin the woodblock process. The contrast in the fluidity of watercolor versus the hard lines of a wood carving is artfully translated by Loughridge. In 1998, he purchased his first letterpress and received immediate success with the woodblock prints he produced. The subtle layering of color in the wood block process allows him to capture the atmospheric qualities of the Southwestern landscape. Watch Loughridge complete two woodblock editions of Cottonwood Pass and Sandhill Cranes in the San Luis Valley.

Michael Wisner  is based in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado. Wisner’s hand-coiled ceramics are formed from local, hand-dug, hand-made clay from local sources in locales like Snowmass and Woody Creek, a method he learned over a 15-year mentorship with artist Juan Quezada in Mexico. Wisner allows his spirit to draw him towards small moments on hikes—stopping to study the patterns of a pinecone, weavings, seed pods or a wandering river—and taking that curiosity back to his studio in Woody Creek to recreate three dimensional patterns in clay with tools he makes himself. The artist meticulously carves each pot with patterns of sacred geometry observed in nature and translated to clay. Watch Wisner handpress patterns of sacred geometry into a hand coiled pot from his studio.
