About this work
Peter Campbell seeks to convey an intimate and personal reaction to nature. His oils capture the quiet of dawn, twilight and moonlight, tapping into the spirit world. By limiting his palette and omitting details, Peter effectively creates an atmosphere, a mood, sometimes a dream-like world which is open to each viewer’s interpretation.
“In 'Creek in January', I wanted the viewer to be led into the background of the painting where you could get a sense of a larger valley, but be counterbalanced with the foreground, with the remaining leaves literally hanging like notes on a musical score in the limbs. That play of warm and cool is always exciting to paint.”
