About this work
In Freewheelin’ I ran a textured wheel over the surface of the wet clay and rubbed a white underglaze over the body of the whole sculpture and then wiped it back. The color you see is the clay—a deep red clay body—I love that one—the red color of that clay is like a chestnut horse, which is what I had. I also drew on the jowl and the body. Instead of hooves, this horse has wheels. I like to find objects, like castors, or a vintage weathervane that is also aged and weathered. I like that combination, where I am creating an object but also integrating these found objects that also have their own history and combining them together.
