About this work
What kind of flowers are you painting in your My Wild Garden series? "They are all made up! What I was really looking for was the gesture. A lot of works in this series have collage elements with rice papers. I love the surface, and when you look closely you can see different layers. Each work is started with the throwing of the ink, and from there I use rice paper, tar, oil pastel, and acrylic. I love the fact that the ink is thrown and then you work with what you have. To me, it speaks to the tenacity and speed of the flowers to grow and survive, especially in the mountains with their short seasons and harsh conditions."
